Kampala — OVER 500 students from the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology Nakawa graduated with certificates and diplomas.
The communication and information technology minister, Ham Mulira, who presided over the ceremony on Friday, urged the graduands to be job creators.
The students graduated in Project Planning, Records and Archives, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering and Information Technology.
Mulira said the institution supported the national strategic objective of increasing the use of information technology.
The principal, Vincent Kasangaki, said the institute had enhanced the careers of professionals over the last eight years.
"Our graduates are performing well and many employees prefer them to university graduates," he said.
The institute's chairperson, Victoria Ssenkubuge Byoma, said the public tertiary institution was created as a centre of excellence to support the information technology sector.
Seven students, Tom Richard Ogwang, Violet Kabacwezi, Juliet Nakaayi, Musa Suleiman, Patricia Akanyo, Ruth Akello and Mabel Kemigisha received first-class diplomas.
