Nigeria: Call Your Aides to Order, Owu Leaders Tell Daniel

Abeokuta — As reactions continue to trail the face -off between Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the Owu Leaders of Thought in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, at the weekend warned the governor to call his political aides to order and stop attacking the personalty of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The leaders of the party from wards 10,11 and 12 at a meeting held in Abeokuta to critically analyse the on-going face-off between the duo resolved that the attack on all Owu sons and daughters should henceforth stop.

This was in reaction to utterances credited to those loyal to the governor in national dailies which included the recently held rally at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta during the week, to condemn the alleged rude -conduct of Senator Obasanjo-Bello against the governor.

On the belief in Daniel's camp that Obasanjo-Bello used Governor Daniel's platform to clinch the senatorial seat in Ogun Central in April 2007 polls, the Owus in the party quicky reminded the governor of how former President Obasanjo made it possible for all the five governors in South-west states to win elections including Ogun State.

A communique issued at the end of their meeting weekend in Abeokuta, jointly signed by Alhaji Bakai Okedara, Chief Dauda Adegboyega, Alhaji M.S Quadri, Chief T.Adeniji, Chief E.O Ogundipe, Hon. Mate Adelanwa, Alhaji Fatai Ajigbare, Chief Isa Akintan and 33 others and made available to THISDAY recalled how a former Senator in Ogun Central and an Owu son, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, was fustrated out of PDP to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and resolved that "Owu people at home and abroad will rise up and to the challenge this time around and resist any attempt to humuliate or rubbish any of us. Enough is Enough".

"The meeting also resolved that those in government should respect the party supremacy by following the directive of the South-west Chairman of the party, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, that all press war on this matter should stop, the press attack continues without caution on daily basis,"the statement added.

While noting with great dismay the attack on prominent leaders, sons and daughters of Egbaland, the leaders at the meeting, called "on all Owu people to stand solidly behind our darling daughter who is an epitome of excellence in Owu kingdom in the face of humiliation and provocation"The Owu leaders, however, noted that no matter the level of blacmail, and intimidation from the camp of the governor, former president and her daughter, Obasanjon-Bello would continue to get the backing of their kinsmen.
