Abuja — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed all the factions in Anambra state still in Court against the party to withdraw such cases to enable the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resolve the crisis.
In a statement signed by the National Vice Chairman of the party in the South-east, Chief Olisa Metu, the party said that the withdrawal of the court cases by all the factions will hasten the quick resolution of the lingering crisis.
The party, according to the statement, "has taken note of various falsehood being peddled about Anambra State chapter of the party and wishes to observe as follows: The truth is that the NWC of the party has received the report of Prof. Jerry Gana report and is currently studying it with a view to finding lasting solution to the crisis.
"The South-east zone therefore urges all committed members of PDP in the zone to withdraw their cases from court in order to assist the NWC to conclude and resolve the crisis. These litigants should remember that the case of intra party crisis in Edo state did not allow the state to focus on the challenges of other issues before it."
The Gana's committee had lamented the multiplicity of the court cases saying: "The multiplicity of law suits has dealt a big blow to the unity, relationship and internal democracy and general working of PDP in Anambra state.
"So far, there are seven court cases that are either decided upon or are pending. Obviously, most of these cases are hurriedly taken to court by contestants to enable them have the upper hand in the power tussle for PDP state executive.
"Moreso, the courts on the other hand decide these cases without a thorough look at their merits. These have created more havoc and conflicts in Anambra PDP and will stall any positive action by the national executive if nothing is done urgently."
Gana's report urged PDP to prevail on all members with cases in court to withdraw them immediately failing which the relevant sections of the constitution of the party would be invoked. The committee also asked PDP to seek a stay of execution where judgments had been obtained against the party.
The party had complied with this recommendation.
