Uganda: Country to Use UN Seat for Peace in the Region

Kampala — UGANDA will use its membership in the United Nations Security Council to promote peace.

The Permanent Secretary, ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador James Mugume said this while opening a meeting of the technical committee of the Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) on Monday at Speke Resort, Munyonyo. "I wish to assure you that Uganda remains committed to the promotion of peace, security and development in our region," he said.

The committee comprises of heads of the national early warning units, civil society organisations and academia. It will review operations in the last one year and make recommendations for the next year.

CEWARN is an initiative of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, a regional body made up of Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti.
