Asmara — President Isaias Afwerki is participating in the UN Conference on Financing for Development which opened today in Doha city, Qatar.
The conference which is being attended by about 40 Heads of State and representatives of 145 countries and international organizations is focusing on restructuring the world financial system, the prevailing global economic crisis and other issues related to it.
In an opening speech at the conference, the Emir of Qatar, Sheik Hamed Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, strongly criticized the developed nationals for imposing preconditions in extending assistance to the developing countries.
The international conference would remain in session until next Tuesday.
It is to be recalled that President Isaias left for Qatar on 27 November to attend the conference.
