Ambassadors representing six countries Friday presented letters of credence to President Ellen Johnson at ceremonies at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia. The diplomats are the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, HE Miroslav Krenek; HE Keiichi Katakami of Japan, HE Stig Barlyng of the Kingdom of Denmark, and the ambassador of the Republic of Malaysia, HE Jaafar Bin Wan Mohamud, as well the ambassador of Brazil, Her Excellency Mrs. Maria Auxiliadora Figueiredo and the ambassador of the Republic of Korea, HE Park Yoon-June.
According to an Executive Mansion the ambassadors spoke of their determination to help strengthen relations between their respective countries and Liberia. They spoke of the progress taking place in Liberia and the need for friendly nations to help consolidate and sustain the development.
The ambassadors said their appointments provide the opportunity to foster and strengthen the already cordial ties subsisting between their countries and Liberia.
Japanese ambassador, His Excellency Keiichi Katakami spoke of the new partnership between Japan and Africa and assured President Johnson Sirleaf that Japan's commitment to Liberia will remain on course despite the global financial crisis. Japan is providing a grant for the supply rice to Liberia. Japan is also renovating the Liberian-Japanese maternity center and a vocational multilateral Technical school in Voinjama.
The ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, Mr. Stig Barlyng said his country has followed closely the progress and is very impressed. Ambassador Barlyng said there is a strong commitment from Denmark toward Liberia's development, assuring President Sirleaf that his country will be flexible as much as possible in fulfilling its obligations to Liberia. Denmark has provided more than US $20-million to support the country's MDGs-3 geared toward the empowerment of women.
Responding, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf welcomed the partnership between Liberia and countries whose ambassadors presented letters of credence. The President particularly spoke of the crucial role played by Denmark and Japan toward Liberia's debt cancellation. The President informed the ambassadors that she remains committed to instituting programs to put the country on an irreversible path to national development and reconstruction.
