Uganda: Former Ankole Bishop Dies

Kampala — THE former Bishop of East Ankole Diocese Rtd. Bishop Amos Betungura succumbed to cancer on Friday at Mayanja Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted for three weeks.

Betungura will be buried today at St. James Cathedral Ruharo, Mbarara next to the grave of his first wife, Constance Betungura.

Betungura retired from working as Bishop in 1991 after serving for 22 years. He was the longest serving bishop in the history of Ankole Diocese.

Betungura authored Runyankole language books. Until recently, he had been featuring on Radio West, under a programme that used to teach Runyankole language every Tuesday and Thursday.
