Kampala — KARAMOJA sub region is still unsafe for travellers, a United Nation's report has revealed.
The report, released by Jessica Bowers of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Kotido, recently cited the escalating ambushes in the region.
The report stated that in October 2008, there were more than 50 Karimojong aggressive activities, a 24% increase compared to August.
"Since the onset of 2008, nine ambushes were recorded - two in February, one in May, one in July, four in August and one in October.
The four road ambushes that occurred in August in Kotido District resulted in three deaths and 13 causalities. This temporarily halted movement of public transport as well as some UN humanitarian operations," Bowers said.
The report, however, says there are prospects for improvement, given the increased presence of security organs in the region.
