Forum of National Chairmen of Political Parties, FNCPP, has called on the Federal Government to publicly order the refund/return of all donations, contributions, and or gifts that are in excess of the N1 million limit.
The forum has condemned the fund raising made for the construction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat as illegal and unlawful.
In its letter to the presidency, the convener, Barr Maxi Okwu, National Chairman, Citizens Popular Party, CPP, who copied the Attorney General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Justice disclosed that some Nigerians including Mr. Femi Otedola, the chief launcher donated N1billion.
Others were Alhaji Aliko Dangote Cement valued at N3 billion, PDP NWC N1 billion, Princess Bola Shagaya N25 million, Chief Michael Otedola N25 million, Strabag Construction N100 million, and Ogun State N10 million excluding a number of anonymous donations particularly one for N100 million.
While calling on the Federal Government to critically assess those donations, he maintained those people are government favoured contractors who are boggling donations to the PDP that controls the Federal Government
"The Attorney General of the Federation should be called to prosecute all those who may have broken the law particularly corporate bodies like Strabag Construction and Dangote Cement, he said.
According to him, all these transactions fall short of the law and are palpably illegal.
Drawing the attention of the presidency to section 92 of the Electoral Act 2006 of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which stated that the section is empowered to place limits on the amount of money or other assets an individual or group of persons can donate to a political party.
Accordingly, INEC acting on powers derived from the said section in 2007, had issued Guidelines/Regulations and No. 6 puts the maximum amount of money or value at N1 million.
