Kickoff (Cape Town)
1 December 2008
Santos' new Director of Football Boebie Solomons tells KickOff.com that he has not joined the club with the intention of taking over the coaching reins from David Bright.
Solomons' arrival at the Peoples' Team has created speculation about the future of Bright who was, before the Absa Premiership win over Maritzburg United, being touted to face the exit door.
The former Bidvest Wits coach has allayed fears that he would replace the Botswana-born coach at Santos.
"This thing happens all over the world, but unfortunately in South Africa, this type of situation always creates a different and negative opinion. I have no intention of coaching Santos."
Solomons said another reason for him choosing to return was because he wanted to be closer to his family in Cape Town.
"It has been almost five years that I have been coaching in Johannesburg and the Limpopo Province. I mentioned the possibility of leaving Winners Park to their management at the beginning of the season and I am happy that they have accepted my decision to leave and join Santos.
"I am also very happy that I have left the club when it was doing well. I believe I have laid a good foundation for whoever takes over at Winners Park."
