All roads will lead to Bujumbura Burundi, come December 19, 2008. This is the day, the biggest beauty pageant ever in East Africa will be held. This is the third edition of the Miss East Africa franchise, held by Mr. Rena Callist, a Tanzanian businessman who also owns Rena Events Ltd., a PR and publicity firm. This will be the first time this event is held outside Tanzania and it is being supported by the ministries of Tourism and Communication, Burundi.
A number of events have already been held to publicise the big day and selections are underway for the two candidates to represent Burundi. The final selections for the Burundi representatives were on Friday November 28, 2008.
The other 26 finalists from the remaining 13 countries, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Seychelles, Mauritius, Reunion Islands, Comoros Islands, Somalia, Madagascar and Mauritania will start arriving December 10, 2008. The event is billed to be a great opportunity for Burundi to showcase it's unrivalled cultural and touristic uniqueness, and will be covered by such big networks as M net and major TV and other media from all the participating countries. The first prize will be a new Lexus. Other interesting prizes are expected to be awarded.
The main sponsors from Burundi are Africell and Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika, which is also expected to host the event.
