Members of British parliamentarians would be in Nigeria next week on a fact-finding mission.
The delegation, which is made up of Members of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) according to a statement from the British High Commission Abuja, will meet with public officials, civil society groups, communities and business people to gain an understanding of the progress that Nigeria has made and the challenges it faces.
The group will visit Lagos, Abuja and Jos where they will meet to discuss issues on power and infrastructure, corruption, the Niger Delta crisis, freedom of information, human rights and development.
"The aims of the visit are to raise the profile of Nigeria in the United Kingdom and improve and deepen engagement between the two countries.
"To improve British parliamentarians' understanding of Nigeria and so enable improved engagement with the UK government on issues relating to the country; and to gain an understanding of the key challenges Nigeria faces and identify where the British government and others could improve assistance", it stated.
This is the fourth delegation that the APPG will send to Nigeria, and the fourth visit for chair of the group.
John Robertson MP. Mr. Robertson will be joined by three other British Members of Parliament who are visiting Nigeria for the first time.
Initially established as the APPG on the Niger Delta, the first visit in 2005 focussed on that region of the country. The last two visits saw MPs travelling across the country to look at a range of issues affecting the nation as a whole.
