Nigeria: At the Country Fashion Awards 2008

The Congress hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was transformed to a spectacular fashion base last Friday 21st November 2008., when the first Nigeria Fashion Awards held. The event organized by Legendary Gold Limited Organizers of the Nigeria fashion show and the Nigeria Model

Awards, was aimed at recognizing and rewarding practicing professionals who have contributed to the growth and development of the Nigerian fashion and beauty industry.

The all glamour event , also provided an opportunity to inaugurate the World fashion Week-- Nigeria by the Special guest of honor Paco De Jaimes, President of the World Fashion Council who flew into Nigeria from his Hollywood base with the Director of photography of the World Fashion Week, Luis De La Cruz.

It was a night of fashion extravaganza as eight of Nigeria's most creative and young designers; Rouge, Toorad, Swob, Ogodor, Diadem creation, Casandra, House of Maufechi, Modela and Islar who did a glamorous hair presentation, gave the audience a good dose of their creativity, with collections that highlighted Nigeria's rich cultural heritage.

High point of the event was the presentation of awards to personalities who have contributed to the development of the fashion industry in different ways.

Five prominent Nigerian Women who have positively influenced Nigerian fashion scene were declared Nigerian fashion icons of all times. They included Chief Mrs Opral Benson, Dr Mrs Maryam Babangida, Erelu Abiola Dosumu, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija and Hajia Abbah Folawiyo.

The high light of the event was the investiture of Regional Patrons and the Board of Trustees of the World Fashion Week-Nigeria by Paco De Jaimes, President of the World Fashion Council. He said he is looking forward to welcoming them to the first World Fashion Week in New York come 2010.

The Regional Patrons invested were Her Excellencies Hajia Aisha Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi and Arch Mrs Dooshima Yemisi Suswam, Wives of the Executive Governors of Zamfara and Benue States. The Board of Trustees of the World Fashion Week-Nigeria include Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, Chief Dele Momodu, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, Arch Fifi Ejindu, Hajia Ramatu Lukemon, Senator Grace Bent, Princess Funke Adedoyin, Hajia Saadatu Barau.

In his remarks, the President of the World Fashion Council praised the hard work and resilience of Lexy Mojo-Eyes, President of Legendary Gold Limited for making it possible for Nigeria to be endorsed as one of the 41 countries to participate in the World Fashion Week. He said it was due to Lexy's contribution to the development and growth of the Nigerian Fashion industry that he was appointed as one of 2 Africans in the International Committee of the World Fashion Council. The International Committee of the World Fashion Council formulates and executes the policies of the international fashion industry.

Side attraction at the Nigeria Fashion Awards included the incredible drummers called Unique singers. Also performed were Faya and Afe from the stable of Atunda Entertainment.

It was witnessed by top notch dignitaries led by the Honorable Minister of Culture and Tourism, Prince Adetokunbo Ademola (SAN) Her Excellencies, Hajia Aisha Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi and Arch Mrs Dooshima Yemisi Suswam, Wives of the Governors of Zamfara and Benue States respectively. Other dignitaries included Chief Mrs Opral Benson, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija, Chief Dele Momodu, Chief and Arch Amechi Ejindu, Chief Dr Mrs Ali, Hajia Halima Gambo.

Allure Editor, fashion Writer win awards

Barely six months after clinching the City People Awards as fashion Editor and Fashion writer of the year, Allure's editor Mrs Remi Diagbare again emerged fashion Editor of the year, while Yemisi Abah again got the Fashion Writer of the year award, at the Nigeria Fashion Awards 2008, held in Abuja last weekend. The awards according to the organizers came on the recognition of their contributions and support to the growth and development of the fashion and beauty industry in Nigeria.
