Nigeria: Niger Delta Technical Committee Submits Report Tomorrow

The Niger Delta Technical Committee, NDTC, inaugurated Monday, September 8, this year, by the Federal Government will tomorrow present its report to President Umaru Yar'Adua in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. The 45-member committee picked Mr. Ledun Mitee and Mrs. Nkoyo Toyo as chairman and secretary, respectively.

Inaugurating the committee, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan had said at the occasion, that the Federal Government would not interfere with the work of the committee but would take with all seriousness the committee's recommendations.

He charged members to "ferret out" reports on the Niger Delta wherever they could find them, adding that though the problems of the Niger Delta did not begin in the life of the Yar'Adua administration, "we have however taken upon ourselves the patriotic task of bringing to a close, this sad and embarrassing chapter in our nation's quest for stability, prosperity and good neighbourliness".

Members of the technical committee include Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, E.C. Adiele, Tony Esu, Nduese Essien, Grace Ekong, Peter King, Anderson Eseimokumo, Lawrence Ekpebu and Austin Ikein.

Others are, Youpele Banigo, Anthony Ani, Ukandi Gabriel Ogar, Col. Edor Obi (rtd), Omafume Onoge, B.I.C. Ijomah, Isaac Jemide, Abel Dafioghor, Benard Jamaho, Sam Amuka, Stella Omu, Ben Bouegha, Julius Ihonvbere, Peter Ebhalemen, Charles Edosomhan (SAN), E.M. Emezurike, Godswill Ihetu and Cyril Anyanwu. Other members of the technical committee are Sam Amadi, D.I. Kekemeke, Olusola Oke, Col. Wole Ohunayo (rtd), Tonye Princewill, Magnus Njei Abe, Chibuzor Ugowoha, Tony Uranta Anyakwe Nsirimovu, Timi Alaibe and Atei Beredugo.
