Bafana Bafana utility man Lance Davids has impressed at right-back while on trial with FC Twente in Holland, but has also attracted interest from Spain.
It seems Twente will make a move come January's transfer window, but expect Spanish side Recreativo Huelva to make a move too.
Davids' contract with Swedish club Djurgardens finishes at the end of December.
"Lance has done very well and Steve (McLaren) is impressed," says Davids' business manager Rob Moore.
"Obviously, he'll need to wait until January for a deal to be struck, but given the way he trained at right-back things look good."
Ironically, Davids has performed well in Europe at fullback, but in the national team set up he has mainly been used in defensive midfield.
Against Cameroon, in South Africa's excellent 3-2 win, Davids played in a line of two defensive midfielders and was superb, winning praise from assistant coach Pitso Mosimane who said he perfectly executed the job they wanted of him.
Here, his role alongside Macbeth Sibaya, was to break up attacks and give the ball to the attacking pair Teko Modise and Siphiwe Tshabalala.
Davids and Sibaya did an excellent job against Cameroon's dangermen in midfield, Jean Makoun, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Modeste Mbami.
