Ado-Ekiti — Disaster befell one Mutiu Nurein at the weekend Ado-Ekiti, as five out of his eight children died mysteriously having been locked up inside the booth of his private car by yet to be identified assailants.
The tragedy, which occured on Saturday at Ureje Community in the state capital, hit Nurein, a young man of about 35 years old, and husband of two wives, whose names were given as Mrs Mulikat and Muyibat.
The five unfortunate children, whose ages range between three and 11 years include Simbiat, Jelilat, Kafiyat, Khadijat and Sefiyat, met their untimely death when unknown persons were said to have locked them inside their father's Mercedez Benz 190 car with registration number MD 209 KJA, parked beside his 3-bedroom bungalow house.
The only surviving one out of the six children left at home was Rashidat, whose age was given as eight years.
Family source disclosed that, Nurein, a butcher, who sells cows at a particular mini-market in Ado-Ekiti, lost the five children on the fateful day, while he was away to Jebba in Kwara State, where he had gone to purchase cows, while his two wives were also not at home.
It was gathered that while the parents were away, six of their eight children were left at home, but no sooner than later they all left and the unfortunate incident occured.
Narrating the ordeal, Nurein who was at the Oke-Isha police station told pressmen that, while he was leaving, he left his wives at home, who later went out to do business in the town untill in the night at about 9.pm on the fateful day that he was called on phone that something strange had occured at home.
He said it was when he came that they told him that five of his children who he left behind at home in the morning had been killed inside the booth of his own car.
He said the survivor, Rashidat (8) who had just been discharged from the state teaching hospital managed to explain that, two "big people" came to their house, and parked them inside the booth, having asked whether their father or any of their mothers was at home.
It was gathered that, it was when the two wives came back in the everning that they noticed that none of their children was around, this prompted their search for them.
In the course of vigorous search, family source disclosed that, they noticed that the booth of the vehicle was moving, and that somebody was crying inside it.
This led to the forceful opening of the booth by several symphatisers, who had gathered to assist in the search, where the five children were found cold dead, with the sixth one still breathing.
She was said to have been immediately rushed to the state teaching hospital where she was recieving treatment untill yesterday.
The two wives, who have four children each to their husbands, were said to have been moved to their parents homes, where they were being attended to.
At press time, symphatisers were still trooping to the home of Mutiu Nurein to condole with him on the death of his five children at a stretch.
The incident was described as strange as such had not happened in the area before.
Meanwhile, the car as at press time was still parked at the Odo-Ado Police Station where a top police officer confirmed the incident stressing that the case had however been transfered to the state police headquarters, Ado-Ekiti, while investigations were in progress to unravel the mystery behind it.
