Ghana: Addo Clinches India Deal

2 December 2008

Ghanaian forward Ishmael Addo has been signed by East Bengal of India on a one-year contract.

Addo, 26, signed the deal after spending three months with his former club Hearts of Oak following an unsuccessful spell in Europe.

He will join his countryman Yusif Yakubu who is the key player for East Bengal as they seek to win the league title.

Addo, who is a former Ghana international, played for Israeli sides Maccabi Netanya and Maccabi Tel Aviv before joining Greek side Ergotelis.

He also played for Enosis Paralimni of Cyprus before returning home to play for his former club.

Addo came to prominence in 1999 where he was the top scorer at the World Under-17 Championships in New Zealand.

The striker confirmed his goal scoring prowess by becoming the top scorer in the Ghanaian league for three consecutive seasons between 1999 and 2001, while he was playing for Hearts of Oak.

During the 2002 season, he was on loan to French club SC Bastia.
