Cameroon is a very big sports nation. Thanks to football, the green, red and yellow flag has been able to fly high in the four-corners of the World. For the past decades, names like Roger Milla, Thomas Nkono, Mboma Patrick, Samuel Eto'o and most recently François Mbango just to name a few, have been selling like hot-cakes in most international sports arenas.
To keep the flame burning, several soccer training centres in the name of clubs have sprouted left and right in our major towns and cities without any tangible results.
To put things on track and assure a smooth replacement, sports authorities in the country have embarked on a nation wide scouting mission through the organisation of the National Games by the National Olympic Committee.
The Games to take place in Yaounde from the 10th to the 20th of December have been hailed by many sports lovers who see it as a level ground for talented youths to excel, veritable forum and nursery for the detecting of talents.
To give every youth a chance, more than ten disciplines namely, volleyball, basketball, handball, judo, table tennis, athletics, boxing, gymnastics, football and wrestling have been programmed and only the best athletes in each of these disciplines will represent its regions.
While in Yaounde, these athletes will be taken care of by well selected officials specialised in the different disciplines. For four days running, their task will not only be to fish out the best, but to educate and inculcate positive morals and sense of hard work in them.
The highly competitive selection exercise will be followed by a well tailored follow-up plan of action for those who will be selected. Within this plan will feature theoretical lessons and international training sessions to expose the youths to high level competitions.
Thus, if everything goes on well and the route map respected to the latter, Cameroon will be more than sure to double its number of goal medals in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
