Nigeria: Pepple Reads Riot Act to Police Pension Staff

2 December 2008

Lagos — HEAD of Service, of the federation, Ms Ama Pepple has warned staff of Police Pension Board, Lagos against extortion and inefficiency in the discharge of their duties.

Pepple, who gave the warning at the weekend, in Lagos said more funds will be released to the board in the supplementary budget.

She also enjoined them to use the money judiciously.

Addressing staffers of the board, Pepple said that Police pensioners should be treated with respect instead of extorting them. She also urged the staff to ensure prompt treatment of files of the retirees.

Pepple said that Service Delivery Unit (SDU) has been inaugurated to check inefficient staff. According to her, the six-man committee of SDU has been saddled with the responsibility of monitoring inefficient staff who allow files to stay more than necessary on their tables.

"They will monitor tables of the staff and check staff who fail or refuse to promptly treat their files", she said.

The civil servants' boss said that the delayed files affect retirees families.

"Remember that after here, you will retire. Treat them as you would want to be treated", she said.

Responding, Director of Police Pension, Mr. Esai Dangaba assured Ms. Pepple of prudent managment of the pension fund.

Dangaba said the staff will adhere strictly to her directives, noting that the staff are efficient and dedicated workers.
