The chairman of Munhumutapa African Broadcasting Corporation (MABC), Oscar Kubara has denied reports that the millions he promised to sponsor the Premier League with have arrived.
He said claims that he arrived at the Botswana Football Association (BFA) offices with a briefcase bulging with cash are not true. Reports said that Kubara approached the BFA with an offer to sponsor a cup tournament or the First Division.
However, he told Monitor Sport that the money has not arrived.
In the past, Kubara promised that if the money comes, he will hand it over to the BFA. He asserted that the money was meant to sponsor football and would not be diverted to something else. "I will let you know when the money is there," he said.
He said they are expecting the money at anytime, and he has been updating the football authorities about the situation. Kubara claimed that his relationship with the BFA is still cordial.
He said the BFA invited him to the high profile Saturday Premier league game in Molepolole between Township Rollers and Extension Gunners, to mark the launch of the be Mobile sponsorship.
But the BFA is seemingly not interested in Munhumutapa.
BFA president, David Fani, said they have nothing to do with Kubara since they have severed links with his company. Contrary to Kubara's claims, Fani said there has been no contact between the two parties.
He said they never discussed any deal with MABC at the executive level and the company cannot sponsor the Premier League because be Mobile has come in. He said if MABC comes up with a different offer other than sponsorship for the Premier League, the case would be treated on its own merit.aa
