Sierra Leone: Police, Kamajors Pursue Untamed Animals in Kailahun

A joint team of local hunters known as 'Kamajors' and personnel of the operational support division, OSD, would soon embark on an exercise to mop up wild animals terrorizing residents of Porkpa and Gbunjima villages in the Jawei chiefdom, Kailahun district, Director of police media unit east disclosed on Monday.

Prince Kamara said the proposed operation was as a result of bitter complaints being constantly made by residents that bush cows and other wild animals are threatening human existence in the area thus creating a state of insecurity in the chiefdom.

Commander of the joint team, chief superintendent Augustine Kailie and some local authorities were said to have reported the matter to the police, requesting for their immediate intervention. The security of residents is said to be in great peril as the wild animals relentlessly continue their raids on farms and other areas.

OSD Kamara called the local hunters to join the team to launch an offensive on the marauding animals to end their menace in the chiefdom.

Meanwhile, Kamara disclosed that one of the rampaging animals has been killed and that additional personnel have been dispatched to the area to go in search of the others.

"However, the regional police commander east, Al-Shek Kamara has cautioned the team to exhibit professionalism in carrying out their operations.

He assured them of his support in their campaign to ensure that total peace return to the affected communities.
