Bloemfontein Celtic have formally lodged their appeal to the PSL against the red card shown to striker Geofrey Serunkuma during the Telkom Knockout semi-final game against Orlando Pirates played in Durban at the weekend.
Celtic's appeal follows a statement released by Safa's Referee's Committee yesterday that it has convened a meeting to review referee Abdul Ebrahim's decision to dismiss the Ugandan striker during the game at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.
According to the chairman of the National Referees Committee, Kirsten Nematendani, a DVD of the game has been submitted by the Premier Soccer League to Safa.
"The Review Committee of Safa can now be expected to convene within the next 48 hours to assess this game. To be taken into consideration will be the Referee's Report of the game, which will assist the Review Committee in its findings," Nematendani added.
The Referee's Review Committee chairman Steve Goddard has confirmed with KickOff.com that his committee met yesterday to review Ebrahim's decision to send off the Serunkuma and will be finalising their findings on the matter today.
Celtic manager Khumbulani Konco remains confident that Ebrahim's decision to send off Serunkuma will be overturned.
"We are confident that the player will be allowed to play in our next league game this weekend," he said.
