Somalia: Islamic Courts Fighters Attack MPs

Somalia — Islamic Courts Union fighters on Monday night attacked Somali MPs houses in Baidoa, the seat of Somali parliament, about 250 Km (150 miles) west of Mogadishu.

The attack, which took place after midnight targeted the houses of the deputy Speaker of the Somali parliament Professor Mohamed Omar Dalha ,Osman Hasan Atto, and Abdirahman Abdi warre, witnesses and officials said.

One security guard died and another one was injured. Residents say sounds of gunfire could be heard around the targeted places.

Officials from the Islamic Courts Union told Shabelle that they had burned dozens of battle wagons from the parliamentarians.

The Islamic Courts Union attack on Baidoa, came a day after hundreds of Ethiopian troops vacated from a military base outside the city heading to Ethiopia in accordance with the recently-signed Djibouti peace agreement highlighting Ethiopian troop withdrawal from Somalia.
