Ghana: Rev. Mante Suggests an Hour of Worship On December 7

2 December 2008

Reverend Dr J. O. Y. Mante, Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson of Presbyterian Church of Ghana has suggested that church services should be held early in the morning before voting begins at 0700 on Sunday, December 7.

He said "Most of the church premises are used as polling stations in the local communities. If morning devotion can be organised at least for an hour before voting begins at 0700 would be ideal".

Rev. Mante made the suggestion when delivering the sermon at the induction of Reverend Kofi Asiamah Ampadu-Daaduam as Nankese District Minister of the church at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at Nankese in the Eastern Region.

He urged the electorate to exercise their franchise on December 7 adding, "We do not want the church service to prevent anyone from voting for a candidate of his/her choice."

Rev. Mante advised the youth to avoid being influenced by politicians for their personal ambition and refrain from acts that would mar a peaceful, free and fair Election 2008.

He asked Christians to eschew vices that affected their relationship with Jesus Christ and ensure their lives were worthy of emulation by society.

Rev. Mante advised Rev. Ampadu-Daaduam to use his experience in the Ministry to uplift the church in the district.

Rev. Ampadu-Daaduam called for co-operation and unity among the congregations to propagate the gospel and win more souls for the Lord.
