The news coming from the Nigerian city of Jos is not a good one at all. See our lead story.
It is the kind of thing we have been warning against since some people in Ghana started making unsubstantiated claims about a rigging plot between the New Patriotic Party and Electoral Commission in this weekend's general elections.
Electoral violence cannot be justified in anyway. There are rules governing the exercise and should anyone feel aggrieved, grievance procedures are there to be followed.
It is the Rule of Law not the Law of the Jungle that must operate. What's happened in Jos can easily happen here in Ghanaian towns and cities if our own "we no go sit down" types are allowed to have their way.
They have already served notice...
So as we enter the final one week to polling day, the message of peace and non-violence must be what we should be hearing from our political leaders.
We have said it before and we will repeat it: Electoral violence does not necessarily take place at polling stations but in the communities where rivalries and bigoted attitudes are allowed to boil over and lead to mayhem and before law and order are restored, the damage has already been done.
To be forewarned, we are told is to be forearmed. The warning from Jos is very loud, clear and bloody...
