Angola: Hello Trust Defuses Over 10,000 Landmines

Menongue — The British non-governmental organisation (NGO) " The Hallo Trust", removed from January to November 2008, in the Kuando Kubango province, about 10,233 landmines, revealed Monday to Angop, the provincial chief of the sector.

The Hallo Trust operation officer referred that of the total of deactivated landmines, 5,967 are anti-personnel and 4,266 are anti-tank landmines.

He also said that another 7,669 explosive devices were deactivated.

According to the Ngo officer, from January to November 2008, The Hallo Trust has cleaned over 600 metres of landmines, through a work executed at ten fields

In Kuango Kubango, the Hallo Trust operates in Menongue, Kuito Kuanavale, Caiundo and Longa, on the road that links Kuito Kuanavale district and Mavinga.
