Be Mobile cellular phone company, the new sponsors of the Premier League and the Botswana Football Association (BFA) are transforming the competition if what happened at weekend games is anything to go by.
During the launch of the sponsorship, the company proved what marketing is all about.
At the Sunday game between Gaborone United and Mochudi Centre Chiefs, the University of Botswana Stadium was painted be Mobile colours and everything was organised with clock-work precision.
Members of the press and other officials at the match were given tags to enable them easy access to the stadium while a tunnel in be Mobile colours, was erected from the dressing rooms to the pitch.
Team officials and reserves are no longer going to be exposed to harsh weather as the company has provided shelters for the technical benches.
To spice up the launch on Sunday, there was entertainment for the spectators at half time and be Mobile vuvuzelas and T-shirts were distributed for free.
The attendance at the Sunday game was equally impressive. The chairman of Extension Gunners, Oduetse Langwane was impressed by the set up at the stadium. "This is wonderful.
It shows we are taking the game to another level. I wish next time the clubs could also put their boards at the stadium," he said.
Langwane added that the good organisation is a sign of growth. "Just imagine if the game was screened on TV," he said.
He said it is not only the TV stations, which are losing by not broadcasting the games but even the Premier, League Committee (PLC).
Chiefs spokesperson, Clifford Mogomotsi was very impressed with the set-up at the stadium. "This is world class. It shows we are going somewhere. Be Mobile has done their home-work.
It is money well spent in terms of organisation," he said. Mogomotsi said the set up at the Sunday game meets international standards. Be Mobile is sponsoring the Premier League with P15 million for three seasons. For the first time, the league champions will walk away with a whopping P1 million.
