Luanda — Angolan ministry of Environment Thursday in Luanda said it has failed to establish the exact cause of the death of the whale found Wednesday off Ambriz district, northern Bengo province.
According to a note that reached Angop Thursday, it was not possible to establish the cause of the death of the mammal due to its advanced state of decay.
However, the institution admits as possible causes hunting for meat and fat, acoustic effects of seismic explorations, environmental pollution, accident or oldage.
"In learning of the existence of a dead whale off Ambriz district, the Environment Ministry sent a technical team to the site to study the best treatment to give to the animal and find out the cause of the death," reads the note.
With 13,5 metres long, five metres wide and three high, the animal weighed 15 to 20 tons.
According to the source, the carcass of the whale was found at around 07:00 pm of Wednesday, being the second such a case, after another animal had been found dead two years ago near the same area.
