Addis Ababa — The Ethiopia Office of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in Addis Ababa has signed an agreement with EK Kaleb General Contractor to build a two story education facilities in Hibret Firre Primary School in Addis Ababa at the cost of over 108 thousand US dollars.
The Agreement was signed yesterday between, Woo-Chan Chang, Assistant Resident Representative of KOICA Ethiopia Office and Kaleb Negusse, General Manager, EK Kaleb General Contractor with the presence of Dr. InYeuo SONG, Chief Representative of KOICA, Hilesselase Fisha, Deputy Head Addis Ababa Education Bureau and Kebebush Wolde Michael, Hibret Firre Primary School principal, as witness, the office said in a statement.
Accordingly, the overall objectives of the extension project, which is to be completed within 8 months, is to equip the school with modern teaching facilities of audio visual center, library, staff rooms and lounge in order to qualitatively improve the teaching and learning process of the school.
The Korean people and government are very much interested to be part of the government of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia's efforts to achieve the MDG goal in education sector by 2015 that is to provide primary education for all school age children in Ethiopia, the statement cited KOICA Chief representative, Dr. InYeup SONG as having said during the signing ceremony.
While supporting expansion of school facilities in Hibret Firre Primary School in Addis Ababa, KOICA is undertaking the construction of four primary schools in Arsi Zone of Oromia regional state at the cost of over 2.2 million USD to be completed next year, the official added.
Hilesselase Fisha, Deputy Head of Addis Ababa Education Bureau, on his part, said his bureau is striving to make education accessible for all without compromising the quality. In this regard, his bureau is more than happy to work with partners like KOICA in education sector to improve quality of education by addressing teaching facilities gap.
The project will be jointly implemented through mutual consultation by KOICA and the Addis Ababa Education Bureau on behalf of their respective government.
Hibret Firee Primary School, located in locally known Korean Village, was newly re-built with two story building of 38 class rooms with modern facilities in 2006 with an out lay of one million US Dollars, a fund from KOICA, the office said..
