Kampala — THE people of northern Uganda should not revenge against the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels when they return home.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, encouraged the people to forgive the rebels for the atrocities and havoc they committed during the 22 years of terror in the north.
He cautioned them against committing crimes and putting the blame on Joseph Kony's group.
"Now you are blaming Kony but he is not here, yet there are crimes being committed like defilement, rape, murder, theft and robbery. May God forgive those who are commiting these evil acts," the archbishop prayed.
He was delivering a sermon at the end of his six-day pastoral visit to the north at Christ Church Urban Archdeaconry in Gulu on Sunday.
The three-hour service was attended by thousands of Christians who received blessings and Holy communion from the archbishop.
The archbishop was hosted by the bishop of northern Uganda diocese, Nelson Onono-Onweng.
Orombi said revenge was for God but not for His children to carry out. "As children of God, people should be God-fearing and stop acts of revenge and disobeying His Ten Commandments."
"Do not revenge. Revenge is for God alone. Do not be overpowered by evil. Love one another and forgive one another and there shall be peace in your hearts, families, society and Uganda as a whole," he preached.
He urged leaders to love their people. "A leader must live and lead through love. And a leader should be compelled by love for his people."
Orombi warned the people against selling off and fighting over land.
