Kampala — UGANDA Cranes midfielder Mike Sserumaga has suffered a career-threatening ankle injury. He is expected to be out of competitive football for a minimum of four months.
The 19-year-old, who turns out for Swedish giants Helsingborgs, dislocated his right ankle while training at his local club KB Lions in Kajjansi yesterday morning.
Sserumaga returned to the country two weeks ago for holiday after the Swedish league had concluded. He was not expected to engage in any competitive game without the consent of the club.
The injury rules him out of this month's CECAFA Championship.
"I thought I would play in the CECAFA tournament which I thought would have improved my fitness before returning to my club in January. But I am worried, this injury could take long," he stated.
"It's the first time this has happened to me and although my doctors are confident it will take a shorter period, I have my doubts," he added.
Sserumaga had some outstanding games for Cranes in their futile recent World Cup qualifiers.
