Kampala — UGANDA'S top tennis player Duncan Mugabe starts his bid for a final title as junior player today in Kampala with a game against qualifier Dylan Comerford from South Africa.
Mugabe has just returned from Libreville, Gabon, playing on the senior ITF/Futures Circuit. He is the top seed of the tournament.
The East African/International Tennis Federation U-18 Junior Circuit that started in Bujumbura last month, moves through Kampala and ends in Nairobi next week. It has attracted players from 11 African countries, Iran, Turkey, Great Britain, India, Tajikistan and China Taipei. There are 48 boys and 32 girls in the event that ends on Saturday.
Mugabe missed the Bujumbura leg that was won by Nigerian Samuel Omoile (boys) and Madagascar's Niriantsa Rasolomalala (girls).
The Kampala leg received a boost from Brussels Airlines who have committed sh13.8m.
"We are once again glad to be associated with Uganda Lawn Tennis Association (ULTA) and this tournament," Pierre Declerck, the airlines country manager said. He was flanked by ULTA boss John Nagenda.
