Nigeria: South East Govs Parley Legislators On Ecology, Security

Owerri — The five South-east Governors have engaged Federal legislators and their state counterparts in the zone in an interactive session to find a lasting solution to the ecological and security problems of the region.

They are Chief Ikedi Ohakim of Imo state, Chief Theodore Orji of Abia state, Chief Sullivan Chime of Enugu state, Mr Peter Obi of Anambra state and Chief Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu who spoke to the press on behalf of other delegates at the end of the interactive session at the Protea Nike Lake Resort in Enugu state, said that the delegates deliberated on serious issues bordering on ecology and security in the South -east and how to find lasting solutions to these problems.

Ekweremadu said that as people of the same geo-political zones with common interest, they had sheathed their swords and put whatever differences they had as individuals behind them to ensure that they deliver the dividends of democracy to the people who elected them.

The senator said that the deliberations became necessary to ensure that lives and properties of people were adequately protected, adding that delegates had resolved to meet quarterly to trash out serious issues that affect the South-east as a whole and attract the attention of the Federal Government to such issues if the need arises. Senators, House of Representatives members and their state counterparts who attended the interactive session included the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ekweremadu, Senator Uche Chukwumereije, Senator Nkechi Nwogu, Hon. Ernest Ibejiako, Hon.Emeka Ihedioha, and Imo House of Asembly Speaker, Hon. Goodluck Nana Opiah among others.
