Nigeria: Gombe Pays N77.6 Million Scholarship Allowance

Gombe — Gombe State government has released the sum of N77.6 million for the payment of scholarship allowance to indigenes of the state studying in various higher institutions in the country.

Commissioner of Youth and Students' Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, who made this known in a chat with newsmen, said the allowance would be for the 2008/2009 academic session.

He said officials of the state Scholarship Board had been dispatched to these institutions to commence the payment.

Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Musa Yahaya Umar, said no fewer than 8,000 students would benefit from the gesture. The Board he said had devised a means to ensure that the fund went round the 80 institutions in the country and advised the beneficiaries to appreciate the gesture by being studious

Umar urged parents to complement government's efforts of ensuring the academic success of their wards.
