Angola: Territory Minister Satisfied With Kilamba Kiaxi Administration

2 December 2008

Luanda — Angolan minister of Territory Administration, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, Tuesday in Luanda, expressed satisfaction at the engagement of the Kilamba Kiaxi administration in settling problems facing the community.

The minister was speaking at the end of a visit meant for an assessment of the implementation of the District Intervention Plan, that started in April this year, as part of the process of decentralisation of districts under which each administration received Akz 375 million from the State's coffers.

"From what we have seen, we can say we are on good path", he said, adding that "our visit has the purpose of assessing, with the district officials, the stage of implementation of the programme of amelioration of the management, through the execution of their PIM (District Intervention Plan).

The minister recalled that the programme is designed to equip the district administrations with the financial means enabling them to assist the various sectors.

Virgílio de Fontes Pereira visited some infrastructures built this year by Kilamba Kiaxi administration, which includes two fountains, one market, ground levelled roads, public lighting and a school.

In his turn, local administrator, José Correia, said that of the district intervention plan that contained 44 items, 40 have been successfully carried out.

The Territory Administration minister was accompanied in the visit by Luanda deputy governor, Bento Soyto, and directors of his department.

Kilamba Kiaxi district, situated to the south of Luanda, has a territorial extension of about 64,1 square kilometres and a population estimated at 1.2 million inhabitants distributed to its six communes.
