Kigali — Local volleyball governing body, FRVB is scheduled to convene before the end of this year to discuss at length who will represent the country in the newly formed East African beach volleyball federation.

According to a high ranking federation official, who preferred not to be named, Rwanda is supposed to take the post of treasurer in the East African federation.

Already, Mophat Masaba who has been the organizing chairman for Uganda's beach volleyball tournaments will serve two years as the federation's chairman while Kenya's Patricia Scot will be the federation's secretary.

On top of those elected to executive positions, each member country will be represented by one official.

Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi make the five countries but other neighboring beach volleyball playing countries like Sudan and DR Cong are free to join.

The official also believes that the move would allow the region to organize more competitive tournaments, which would in turn help in the development of the sport in the region.

"The move is certainly good because with more competitions, the standard of beach volleyball will improve," he said.

It is also reported that the new federation members will meet soon to discuss terms of reference and design competition formats.
