2 December 2008

Kano — Kano State government has said it would make the teaching of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) mandatory at all levels of education and that it had commenced the training of teachers on its use, as well as upgrading libraries to digital ones.

Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, who said this during the commissioning of ICT centres in three the higher institutions in the state, said ICT education was a core aspect of the state's economic development roadmap, which aimed at developing skilled manpower in the sector, to make the state self-reliant.

While urging staff and students to make optimal use of the centres so as to have a more fulfilling educational experience, he said government would partner with the private sector to make the state one of the key players in the ICT revolution.
