Nigeria: Eid-El-Kabir - FG Declares Monday, Tuesday Public Holidays

Lagos — The Federal Government has declared Monday December 8 and December 9, 2008, public holidays, to mark the 2008 Eid-el-kabir muslim festival.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior, Abuja, signed by the Assistant Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Danjuma Manga, said, "the Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday, 8th and 9th December, 2008 as public holidays to mark the 2008 Eid-el-kabir muslim festival.

"The Honourable Minister of Interior, Major General Godwin Abbe (rtd), who made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, wishes all Nigerians at home and abroad a joyous celeberation," it added.

The Minister also, "enjoined all to reflect on the virtue of sacrificial giving which is the central theme of this festival and to also use the occasion to pray for continued tolerance, peace and progress in our nation."
