Liberia: Deputy Immigration Commissioner Receives Death Threat

3 December 2008

Deputy Immigration commissioner, Archie Williams who was recently attacked by some unknown men have received threats of similar attacks or possible death.

"You are nothing but already a dead body," he quoted one of the threatening messages as saying. According to him, for the past two days he continues to receive threats, some of which threatened to eliminate apparently for his position at the bureau. He said one of the threatening messages spoke of him behaving as if the bureau belongs to him.

Mr. Williams said those who sent the messages via cell phone informed him that the first attack was not much, but that the second attack may lead to his death. He believes that these threats are coming from people within the bureau, perhaps for doing his job.

He said he was concerned about these threats because the same people attacked him sometimes ago. Meanwhile, he has informed the National security Agency (NSA) about these threats.
