Liberia: NPP to Hold Reconciliation Jamboree

The National Patriotic Party (NPP) says it has finalized arrangement for the holding of what the former ruling party refers to as "NPP Reconciliation Jamboree" which according to them is geared towards the reuniting of all its members and partisans.

Speaking at the launched of the occasion, the Chairman of the NPP Steering Committee, Mr. Benoni Urey said that the entire executive of the former ruling party with the hope of rekindling the spirit of unity and harmony within the NPP as a collective body has decided holding a festivity jamboree.

Mr. Urey said that the NPP has always been a party of unity in the midst of confusion.

According to him, their ambition is to create an atmosphere in which every partisans, sympathizer, and well wisher of the party will have a festivity as a means of settling the differences that once existed within the level of the party and to also prepare themselves for the holding of the national convention.

The NPP executives added that they intend to bring back all of their partisans who according to him have joined other political parties due to several reasons.

He however noted that the occasion is also intended to show to the rest of the world that indeed the "ELEPHANT" of former President Charles G. Taylor has awakened and ready to contribute to the recovery process of the country. By so doing, the NPP official called on all partisans to forgive and forget that which transpired in the past and use the occasion to call on all partisans to join the process in making the 'ELEPHANT' awake.

He said that the strength of the NPP is that they have always progressed in diversities and noted that with the hope of restoring the lost image of the party, they have assembled less than one umbrella. For her part, the co-chairman of the NPP Steering Committee, Mrs. D. Musuleng Cooper urged all partisans to return home, adding that the time has come to return from where you have come.

Adding his voice, the NPP National Chairman, Cllr. T.C. Gould said that the party will use that occasion to heal its old wounds which have caused a serious problem for the party over the years. He said reconciliation and unity would be the hallmarks of the occasion during which time, according to him, every partisans will have the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction and suggest a way forward for the party.

The NPP National Chairman also noted that some silent decisions would be made at the jamboree but noted that it would done based on reconciliation. He said they also want to ensure that their partisans are not disgruntled.

The program was graced by some senior NPP partisans including Lewis Brown, former party chairman, Cyril Allen, NPP secretary general John Whitefield, and Mr. Paul Mulbah amongst others.

The jamboree is expected to be held on December 13, 2008 at the Mazee Village located on the Monrovia -Robert field highway.
