The Chairman of the Grand Bassa County Sport Association Mr. Emmanuel Pello has said this years' (2008) national county meet will certainly take on a new dimension with Bassa proudly taking the grand trophy home.
"All out support has began pouring into the offices of the steering committee including a LD $ 70,000.00 donated by the Grand Bassa caucus and county officials, he told a major news conference over the weekend in Monrovia.
Mr. Pello said in order to ensure sanity, transparency and accountability of the sports fund, two separate accounts (one in USD and LD) has been opened at the Liberia Bank for International Development (LBDI) in Monrovia.
He called for all supports both financial and moral to the steering committee as an encouragement to the football, kick-ball and basket ball teams.
Immediately after Saturday's new conference, chairman Pello and sports officials drove to Buchanan to formerly present the rapid prepared team to the county officials and Bassa citizens at the Doris Williams Sports ground in Buchanan city.
Sunday marked a test march between to new county teams and the locals, he said.
On Monday, there will be a grand parade on major streets in Buchanan to announce the launching of the tournament.
According to the chairman of the Technical Committee, Elbort Harris, perfect selections were made Bassonians in Monrovia to organize the broad base teams for the county. Series of test matches had already been played in Monrovia before their departure on Saturday, he reported.
Mr. Pello and Harris thanked the county legislature caucus, officials of the county and entire Bassa citizens including local residents, corporations such as Acelor-mettal Steel, Buchanan Renewable Energy (BRE), for their massive support to the teams.
They have assured Superintendent Cecelia Duncan-Cassette of capturing the trophy this year with the first Bassa teams taking on Nimba on December 7th 2008 in Buchanan.
