South Africa: Rosslee Unimpressed Over Venue Debacle

3 December 2008

Ajax Cape Town coach Craig Rosslee is unimpressed with the ongoing Telkom Knockout Cup venue debacle.

The Urban Warriors are set to take on Orlando Pirates in the Final on Saturday December 13, but a venue has yet to be decided.

The venues suggested by the PSL are Orlando Stadium, Rustenburg's Olympia Park or Atteridgeville's Super Stadium - all of which, Ajax claim, favour Pirates.

The Cape Town club have warned that they are not going to accept any of the suggestions.

Durban's Absa Stadium, suggested by Ajax as a more neutral venue, is booked for "church activities", according to PSL CEO Kjetil Siem, while Free State Stadium is undergoing renovations.

"What the guys should be writing," says Rosslee, "is that if we want to host a successful 2010, things like this shouldn't be happening in our domestic football. I mean, we are window dressing for a World Cup and we can't even get things right domestically.

"It's like if Manchester United were playing Arsenal in the FA Cup Final and they said, 'Let's take it to Old Trafford because we'll get more fans.'"

The PSL are to make a decision today.
