The M-Net Face of Africa finale held over the weekend at SuperBowl in Sun City crowned 23-year-old Ghanaian, Kate Tachie Menson, as the 2008 queen.
The Ghanaian beauty beat nine others who made it into the top 10 at the glittering finals organised at the South African resort city in North West Province. Menson proved that hard work and perseverance do pay, as this was not her first time trying her luck in the prestigious model search contest. Menson, a student, who hails from Tesand, tried her luck during the 2006 casting, but did not make it because of her measurement. The young lady, however, did not give up her dreams of becoming a top model, as she became even more dedicated to showing the scouts that she has what it takes. She spent two years training hard and was finally chosen as a finalist for this year's model search contest.
Contestants who managed to make it into the top 10 were: Aminat Alli-Balogun (Nigeria), Hamamat Montia (Ghana), Hiwot Tesfaye (Ethiopia), Joana Bunga (Angola), Lucy Suubbi (Uganda), Maria Huudu-eli Hiwilepo (Namibia), Nokuthula Ingwe (Zambia), Olusola Duromola (Nigeria), and Sandiso Qongpo (South Africa). Botswana's representative, Totwana "Tito" Tema, was eliminated during the model moot camp held in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The winner pocketed USD 50, 000 (about P395, 000), and a modelling contract with O Model Africa valued at another USD P50, 000.
