Assin Manso — The Paramount Chief of the Assin Apimanim Traditional Area in the Central Region, Barimah Kwame Nkyi XII, has appealed to African Americans to invest in the area, last Friday, when a host of African Americans joined him to celebrate his 40th Anniversary in grand style, at Assin Manso.

At the ceremony, African Americans danced to traditional African rhythms to the amazement of other visitors who attended the programme.

Also at the programme were the Bongo Naba, Baba Salifu, Bo-Naba, and Alemyarim, from the Upper East Region, who were seated at the right hand of Barimah Nkyi.

History was also made at the ceremony, when an African American Professor in Medicine, Prof. Kofi Kondwani, of Morehouse College in Atlanta, USA, was installed as Development Chief of the Gyaase Division of the Assin Apimanim traditional area.

His stool name is Kofi Amoah II, and he was carried in a palanquin through the principal streets of Assin Manso. He swore the oath of allegiance to Barimah Nkyi.

Dr. Barbara King, also known as Nana Twumwaa I, Founder of Hillside Chapel, Atlanta, USA, who was been installed as Development Chief at Assin Nsuta four years ago, also attended the colourful ceremony, which exhibited African culture.

Nii Nartey Kow, an African American from Atlanta, USA, who has been installed development Chief of Prampram and Prof. James Moore, a repatriated African American, as well as Rabbi Nathanya Kohain Helevi, were all there to grace the occasion.

Speaking at the function, the Assin South District Chief Executive, Millicent Koranchie, commended Barimah Nkyi for his exemplary leadership that had elevated Assin Manso and it environs onto the international map.

She said Barimah Nkyi promoted the area through the celebration of Emancipation Day, which paved the way for Africans in the Diaspora to visit the Slave Market and the Ancestral River.

She called for unity among the chiefs, to ensure total development in the area.

Barimah Nkyi also appealed to the chiefs who re-affirmed their obedience to him to refrain from negative practices that undermined the development of the area.

On his part, Kofi Kondwani promised to bridge the gap between Assin Manso and the United States, by exploring the power behind Obama's victory.

He promised to develop Assin Manso, and thanked the people for the confidence reposed in him as Development Chief.

Barimah Nkyi was installed Paramount Chief of Assin Apimanim in 1968, and has since played an active role in the development of the traditional area.
