Harare — ROOFTOP Promotions yesterday premiered the two-hander titled Threads at Theatre in the Park.
The play that features Tafadzwa Muzondo of Edzai Isu Theatre from Highfield and delectable Vimbai Zimuto runs till December 11 and closes the season at Theatre in the Park.
Threads sets out to show how two people's lives are bound together by the different political and socio-economic in Zimbabwe.
Annamore Ziweya, the Rooftop Promotions theatre co-ordinator said there would be two shows each day.
"We will have a lunch time show starting at 12 pm and another in the evening at 5.30pm," she said.
Ziweya said it was with the spirit of the festive season that they decided to have two shows per day.
She added: "This play will close an all important season for Theatre in the Park this year.
"The two dream and yearn for the same things although they have a big age difference as grandmother and grandson.
They want total independence and pray that all their dreams of milk and honey are realized."
While this is the first time that Threads is showing in Zimbabwe it has already been shown regionally to critical acclaim.
The play has been staged in South Africa and Malawi and the performances were in collaboration with Amnesty International. Muzondo said it was challenging to perform before regional audiences.
"In South Africa we performed at a school and there were 1 500 students. That was one of the largest audiences I have ever performed for," he said.
He was full of praise for his co-star Zimuto.
"Actually this is a poetry and drama production and coming from a musical background Zimuto did great," Muzondo said.
The pair held six shows in Malawi at Lilongwe Hotel, eight shows in South Africa at the Constitution Hill that was formerly used as a prison and four shows in Namibia at Warehouse Theatre.
Zimuto is a talented mbira player who used to perform as a backing vocalist for township jazz maestro Earnest Tanga Sando. She also had a stint with Oliver Mtukudzi.
This year Rooftop Promotions staged memorable shows including Wedding Day, Teeth, Checkmate, Sahwira, Wedding Night, Dambudzo and Two Leaders I Know among others.
