Kampala — AFRICAN National Olympic Committees will review the continent's performance at the recent Beijing Olympics at a meeting that starts in Kampala today.
A two-day Africa National Olympic Committee Associations (ANOCA) secretary general's conference at Imperial Royale Hotel has attracted over 45 member countries of the 53 area members. It is expected to draw up a programme leading to the 2012 Olympic Games.
Pedro Miro, an Olympic Solidarity director, arrived in the country yesterday to attend the ANOCA conference. Olympic Solidarity is a programme for sports development that includes talent identification, technical courses, developing of elite athletes and training sports administrators.
Miro, together with Olympic Solidarity officials Jirome Poivey, Joelle Sirvond and Tushio Tsurunanga will be expected to give a detailed Solidarity plan for the continent for the next four years.
The continent's performance at the recently concluded Beijing Olympic Games will also be in focus. Africa continues to do well in track and field but has declined in boxing and other traditional sports.
State sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi will open the conference, according to Uganda Olympic head Maj. Gen. Francis Nyangweso.
