Addis Ababa — MOHA Soft Drinks Industry S.C on Wednesday announced the launch of a new bus terminal project in Merkato, one of the largest open markets in Africa.
As the city's main shopping centre where over 200 thousand people from different regions of the country visit the market place each day, the area is oftentimes crowded with shoppers and traffic.
The new project estimated to cost over two million birr from MOHA is said to contribute significantly in promoting easy and secured market environment.
The project includes seven double-sided bus shelters which long ten meter each.
Two Shopping kiosks, two toilets and shoe shine stands and two Anbessa-city bus ticket offices are also featured with the new terminal.
MOHA will sponsor the project to be carried out in association with Polar promotion in association with MOHA, City Government of Addis Ababa, Addis Ababa City Transport Authority, and Anbessa City Bus Enterprise.
Speaking at a news conference organized to introduce the new terminal project at the Sheraton Addis on Wednesday, Polar Promotion Director Asfaw Deneke said the new bus shelters are unique in a way that they will bring a huge change for the better in terms of view and sanitation.
MOHA promotional strategy is contributing for social benefits such as standardizing and keeping the cleanliness of bus terminals in the city.
More than 22 bus terminals are built by MOHA in different sites of the city and MOHA has a plan to construct more. Over 30 adjacent lines come together in the station and 112 city buses provide service.
Starting next week Anbessa will shut down the terminal for twenty days and buses will be rerouted till the project is completed.
