Nigeria: Ofeimum Calls for Literary Tourism Centre in Anambra

FORMER National President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Mr. Odia Ofeimum has called for the establishment of a literary tourism centre in Anambra State in view of the large number of authors produced by the statte.

Ofeimum, said at the re-launching of the Anambra State branch of the association in Onitsha, that in spite of the fact that the state was supposed to be a craddle of African and Nigerian literature, the state branch became inactive soon after its inauguration.

"This is the only state where you have to move from one place to the other and in every 10 kilometer, you have an author. Anambra State is not just the state where our founding president, Prof Chinua Achebe comes from, but the state of renowned authors like Pius Okigbo, Onuora Nzekwu, Cyprain Ekwensi, Chukwuemeka Ike and others.

"If you start counting all of them, you begin to realize that you are actually talking about a state that is a cradle of African and Nigerian Literature."
