Botswana: Two 24 Hour Clinics to Open in Gaborone

Two 24 hour clinics will be opened in Broadhurst in 2010 and 2011. The Minister of Local Government, Margaret Nasha, says Notwane Clinic in the SSG area will be open 24 hours, as part of the urban development plan 2010-2011.

Expansion of the Broadhurst Clinic will depend on the availability of staff. "You must understand that you need at least 50 staff members to be able to operate 24 hours," she said in Parliament yesterday. Nasha was answering a question from Gaborone North MP, Keletso Rakhudu, who wanted to know if a 24 hours clinic for Gaborone North has been accommodated in the Tsholofelo Extension Block.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources says they are not considering leasing boreholes to farmers in the area, despite the fact that most of the villages in the North East District now get water from Ntimbale Dam.

Minister Ponatshego Kedikilwe says the boreholes will be used to water the communities in cases of emergency and also as supplementary to the dam supply. Tati West MP, Charles Tibone, suggested the boreholes could be leased to farmers to water livestock, and for horticultural purposes.
