The wife of the Rivers State Commissioner of Sports Boma Iyaye, who was kidnapped last week, has been released.
Mrs. Joy Iyaye was freed by her abductors early on Thursday morning.
An official statement from the Office of the Commissioner expressed appreciation to the State governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his efforts in securing the release of the commissioner's wife.
Officials insisted that Mrs Iyaye was released unconditionally, although KickOffNigeria.com gathered that some ransom was paid.
the kidnappers had initially demanded a N1billion ransom, but later came down progressively to N300 million, then N150 million before finally making an offer of N30 million.
It is understood however, that what was paid was way less, in the region of around N5 million.
Meanwhile, the mother of Senator Lee Meaba was abducted early on Thursday morning, also in Rivers State.
No ransom demand has come through yet.
